The beginnings of the Northfield Historical Society were shaped out of the coming together to celebrate America’s bicentennial in 1975. Through a grassroots effort, the Northfield Historical Society established itself and celebrated its formation in 1976.

With a distinctive location in the heart of Northfield, you can’t put a price on what is experienced and seen when visiting—views of the Cannon River, historic downtown and the Riverview Market Fair during summer.

Experience living, breathing history

Whether it’s history that is rooted in immigration, farming, milling and entrepreneurship, or a future that looks towards continuing to preserve shared stories, there are plenty of tales to tell.

History is taken and put out on the streets at unique celebrations and in everyday surroundings, like Defeat of Jesse James Days and the living, breathing downtown.

You are invited to visit and join the preservation of the unique history of the Northfield area and the continuation of creating an environment that encourages historical reflection, documentation and discovery.
